So far, all of my Vista applications are running just fine on Windows 7. This may be in part to the screen not dimming every 5 minutes with UAC asking for approval to continue. My MBP, which has been known to get bogged down with Aero in Vista, remains snappy throughout my usage. Some noticeable improvements have been made in general UI responsiveness compared to Vista. Sorry about the poor quality and background music, this was shot using my only camera, a point and shoot. Here’s a short video showing the boot from a cold start. The gadgets appear to be delayed and appear several seconds after the system is usable, so some progress has been made in regard to boot priorities. Once the username and password has been entered it takes another 10 to 15 seconds to load the rest of the UI (judging by the wait indicator). From a cold start it takes Windows 7 just over a minute to reach the login screen. Performanceīootup times still seem average. The Windows 7 installer looks identical to Vista at this time, granted this is a beta. (Press and hold on the reboot, eject the CD, and then choose Windows.) This copied the files to the hard drive before rebooting to perform the installation. Instead of wiping my existing Boot Camp partition, I first booted into Vista and then ran the Windows 7 installer. Now that Windows 7 has an EFI loader, the emulated one used by Boot Camp is no longer needed. I have a feeling this was because I already had Vista installed. The installation would freeze during boot-up asking what kind of CD-ROM boot type to use. I was finally able to download the Windows 7 beta this afternoon and decided to put it on my MacBook Pro.
